Fairfax, Virginia
has a prime location, less than a half hour from Washington D.C. The economy of Fairfax County is largely a service economy that relies heavily on the Federal Government. Many citizens of Fairfax work for the government or for contractors of the Federal Government. Defense contractors are prominent. Following the Government, Fort Belvoir is the county's largest employer. The top 5 largest private employers are Inova Health System, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) and Freddie Mac. Fairfax County is also home to Sprint Nextel, Gannett, Capital One, General Dynamics and NVR. More than 67,000 new jobs have been created in Fairfax within the last two years. Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, PricewaterhouseCoopers and SRA International have all recently announced plans to expand facilities in the region, creating even more jobs.
